Finance Dissertation Help for UK Students

Can someone help me with my finance dissertation? Yes. Most finance students who message us are not stuck on writing. They are stuck on a series that does not match their variable, an event window that will not behave, or regression output they cannot explain. We start from the stage you are at, not from page one.

Send us what you have, even rough notes. We reply with a quote on WhatsApp or email.

Six places a finance dissertation usually stalls

Finance is the subject where an examiner can follow every number back to its source. These are the points where we are asked for help most often, and what we do about each.

  • The data you can actually reach

Bloomberg and Datastream are not open to every student. We check what your question can be tested with, using open or library data, before you commit to a design.

  • The event study

Event window, benchmark, abnormal return. The standard reference for the method is MacKinlay's 1997 paper on event studies in economics and finance. We help you set the design out clearly enough to defend.

  • Factor models

Naming CAPM or a multi-factor model is not the same as specifying it. We help you say which factors, which data and why, then report the output.

  • The sample

Which firms or assets are in, which dropped out, and why. A sample that is hard to explain is hard to defend, so we help you write the selection down.

  • Diagnostics

Running the tests is half the job. We help you report what each test showed and what you did when one failed.

  • Saying what the result means

A coefficient needs a finance sentence: what moved, by how much and whether it holds up. We turn tables into plain statements about size and direction, not only significance.

What a UK finance marker is looking for

The QAA Subject Benchmark Statement for Finance (fourth edition, April 2025) sets out what UK finance degrees are built around. Three of its points shape how we plan your dissertation.

The benchmark says

Graduates should interpret financial data, including accounting and market data, using spreadsheets and statistical or econometric software, and should critically appraise the limits of that data and its assumptions (paragraph 3.2).

So we ask you

Where your data comes from, what it leaves out and which software you are expected to use. We write the limitations in, rather than hiding them.

The benchmark says

Master's students normally complete a self-directed project or dissertation, ideally with empirical work (paragraph 2.14). It does not explicitly require a bachelor's dissertation.

So we ask you

Whether your course expects an empirical study. Your handbook decides, so we work from it and not from a general rule.

The benchmark says

The subject covers banking, corporate finance, personal finance, investment, risk management and public finance, plus emerging areas such as climate, green and sustainable finance, fintech and AI (paragraph 1.2).

So we ask you

Which of those areas your question sits in, so the literature, data and method all point the same way.

Not sure whether your data can answer your question? Send the idea and we will tell you.

Where UK finance students find their data

Data decides which question you can ask. These sources are real, published and open to check. Start with the free ones, then see what your own library adds.

Bank of England database

The Bank of England database lets you browse, visualise and export the series the Bank publishes. You can browse by topic, table, country, financial category or sector. Series include Bank Rate history, exchange rates, yield curves and money and credit statistics.

FCA Financial Lives 2024

The FCA's Financial Lives 2024 survey has 17,950 respondents, with fieldwork from 5 February to 16 June 2024. The page lists weighted data tables and tracking tables, and says the main survey and tracking data are available through the Geographic Data Service. Useful for consumer finance and financial inclusion.

Companies House free data

The free company data product is free CSV data covering company number, address, status, incorporation date, filing dates, SIC code and basic mortgage charge details. Check whether it holds the figures your ratios need before you plan around it.

UK Fama-French factors

The University of Exeter's UK Fama-French and momentum factor data is described on its page as the UK counterpart to the free US factor library, for academic and postgraduate researchers. The files sit behind a disclaimer page, so read the terms before you use them.

Your university library

One UK example, the University of St Andrews data guide, lists Bloomberg terminals by prior arrangement, LSEG Workspace and Datastream accounts through the library, and S&P Capital IQ Pro with registration. Access differs by university, so check yours first.

Always check the access level and licence of a dataset before you build your plan around it. If your question needs data you cannot get, we say so early, while there is still time to change the question.

Finance areas we work in

Tell us your area and we match the help to it. If your project leans heavily on code or statistics, our data science dissertation help covers that side, and our PhD thesis help covers doctoral work.

Established areas

  • Banking
  • Corporate finance
  • Personal finance
  • Investment
  • Risk management
  • Public finance

Growing areas

  • Climate finance
  • Green and sustainable finance
  • ESG
  • Fintech
  • Cryptocurrency
  • AI in finance

Both lists follow the areas named in the QAA benchmark above. Not on the list? Ask us. Finance overlaps with accounting and economics, and many dissertations sit between them.

From first message to final draft

You approve the plan before the writing starts, so the dissertation never drifts away from what you and your supervisor agreed.

  1. You talk to us and send the details

Use the form or WhatsApp. We check that your topic and level fit before anything is accepted.

  2. A writer is matched to your degree level

We assign a writer based on your degree requirement and finance area.

  3. Three topic options and an outline

The outline sets out the research gap, the research questions and objectives, and the conceptual framework.

    You approve
  4. Proposal

Once you approve the outline, the proposal is drafted.

    You approve
  5. Writing to the approved guidelines

The dissertation is written to the plan you signed off, using the data and method already agreed.

  6. Quality check, then delivery

Our quality assurance team checks the work before it reaches you.

Price depends on your level, length, deadline and how much of the dissertation you need. Our price page explains the factors.

Only need one stage?

Many students come to us for a single piece. We can start with your research proposal, shape the literature review, explain the methodology, tighten the conclusion, or give the finished draft a last read through proofreading and editing.

Questions finance students ask us

Can you help with the event study or regression, or only the writing?

Both. Tell us your research question, your data and the software your department expects. We help you set up a model your data can support, then explain the output in finance terms: what moved, by how much and whether it holds up. Your quote confirms whether we can support your software.

Where can I find data for a UK finance dissertation?

Start with what is free. The Bank of England database covers interest rates, exchange rates, yield curves and credit statistics. The FCA's Financial Lives 2024 survey tables cover consumer finance. Companies House publishes free company data. Your library may add Bloomberg, LSEG Datastream or S&P Capital IQ Pro, but access differs by university, so check yours before you plan around it.

My university has no Bloomberg or Datastream. Can I still do an empirical dissertation?

Often yes, but the question has to match the data. Free sources can support work on interest rates, exchange rates, yield curves, credit and consumer finance. Send us your idea and we check whether suitable data exists before you commit to a design.

Does a finance dissertation have to be empirical?

Not always. The QAA benchmark for finance says master's students normally complete a self-directed project or dissertation, ideally with empirical work, and it does not explicitly require a bachelor's dissertation. Your course handbook decides what counts, so check it and tell us what it says.

Do I need programming for a finance dissertation?

It depends on your course. The QAA benchmark says finance graduates should have knowledge of programming and data visualisation and use it on financial data, alongside spreadsheets and statistical or econometric software. Check which tools your module expects and tell us. If you only need a spreadsheet, we keep it simple.

Can you help with a fintech, ESG or sustainable finance dissertation?

Yes. The QAA benchmark lists climate, green and sustainable finance, fintech and AI among the growing areas of the subject, and ESG is central to how it defines sustainable finance. These topics often have thinner data and a shorter literature, so we check what you can source before you commit to a question.

Tell us what you are working on

Send your question, your data and your deadline. We reply with what we would do and what it costs.

We provide guidance and model support to help you understand and improve your own work. Follow your university's rules on assistance, referencing and AI tools.
